Six new wildlife sculptures in miniature

Edge Sculpture in Miniature: A Contemporary Art Revolution

Welcome to the enchanting world of Edge Sculpture in Miniature, a realm where art transcends its traditional boundaries, and size becomes a canvas for innovation. In this world, contemporary statement pieces redefine the essence of home décor, each crafted with the vision of Matt Buckley, the mastermind behind Edge Sculpture.

The Art of Miniaturization: A New Adventure

Matt Buckley, an artist known for his creative curiosity, ventured into a new realm of artistic expression. His latest endeavor? To shrink his majestic large-scale sculptures into miniature marvels. This wasn’t about merely reducing size; it was about capturing the essence of the originals in a smaller form.

Utilising marble-based stone casting and the same intricate painting techniques, these miniatures are a testament to both artistry and technological advancement. However, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. Matt had to carefully tweak each piece, ensuring they were not only manufacturable but also retained the essence of their larger counterparts.

The Launch of a New Collection

Today, we proudly unveil a new chapter in the Edge Sculpture story with the introduction of six classic miniatures. This is just the beginning. More pieces, born from innovative techniques and Matt’s keen eye for detail, are on the horizon. What’s more, plans are underway to design unique displays for these miniature masterpieces. Each sculpture is a collectible, presented in a sleek, matt black gift box, bearing the silver foil logo of Edge Sculpture.

The new minitiature sculptures are:

  • Depth: 98mm (3.9 inches)

About Sea Turtles

Sea turtles are fascinating marine reptiles that belong to one of seven different species. They are uniquely adapted to life in the ocean, where they spend most of their lives, only coming ashore to lay their eggs. The majority of sea turtles are characterized by long paddle-like front flippers and short rear flippers, with most species, except the leatherback, having hard, oval-shaped shells for protection.

In terms of size, sea turtles vary significantly among the species. The smallest can measure about 2 feet long and weigh around 80 pounds, while the largest species, like the leatherback turtle, can reach lengths of over 6 feet and weigh more than 2,000 pounds.

Sea turtles are known for their incredible ability to travel long distances. For instance, leatherback turtles have been recorded traveling over 12,774 miles over two years. These long migrations are crucial for their survival, as they move between their feeding grounds and nesting beaches. Female sea turtles show an incredible fidelity to their birthplace, often returning to the exact beach where they were born to lay their eggs.

How Edge Sculptures are made

Crafting an Edge Sculpture is a laborious process that involves skilled craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail. Each piece is made in the UK at matt Bucklys studios with a talented team of professional sculptures.

First, the original piece is brought to life using clay, which is then expertly encapsulated in rubber to create the parent mould. From this mould, durable composite granite pieces are cast, and a vacuum sealing process removes any air bubbles that could compromise the sculpture’s integrity. The curing period is then initiated and sustained until the structure reaches the appropriate level of hardness.

After this stage, the piece undergoes meticulous examination and fettling to enhance its depth of detail and natural form. Then, expert artists apply passionate finishing touches to colour, shade, and detail the sculpture to perfection, creating a true masterpiece.

The entire process is a testament to the dedication and skill of the Edge team, resulting in a beautiful and enduring work of art that is sure to be treasured for years to come.
