New to the Edge family is this stunning Edge Sculpture Koala & Joey Bust brown which features a Koala with her young, known as a “Joey” by her side. This new piece complements the Koala & Joey Bust in Grey which was launched last year. The koala fur varies in colour from light grey to brown. Koalas in the south generally tend to have fur which is darker and thicker (and sometimes browner) than those in the north.

The Joey will stay with its mother for at least a year to learn all the life skills it needs to thrive before moving on to find its own home range. Koalas are difficult to spot in the wild as they are spread over a large area. There used to be millions of Koalas in the wild but in recent years numbers have dwindled due to bushfires and the destruction of their habitats.

The word “koala” is thought to originate from one of the Australian Aboriginal languages and roughly translates to ‘no drink’ or ‘no water’.  In their native habitat in the  Australian bush, koalas rarely drink water with the majority of their water intake coming from eating fresh eucalyptus leaves.  This beautiful sculpture, the Koala & Joey Bust, is a wonderful way to enjoy this iconic creature in your home as it truly captures the character of the Koala.

How the Koala & Joey Bust in Brown is made

The original piece is moulded and given life from clay that is then expertly encapsulated in rubber to produce the parent mould.

Each piece is sculpted in clay, which allows the creation of pieces that deliver both a dynamic and organic feel.  The team at Edge then develop both the cases and moulds which ensure the faithful reproduction of the original clay sculpture in a special blend of marble stone castings.

The finishing touch is the skilful application of hand-painting with the end result being a statement piece and talking point for anyone’s home or business!
