Description

Edge Sculpture Chameleon

This striking Chameleon is a perfect representation of this distinctive and somewhat quirky reptile. Chameleons are a highly specialized clade of Old World lizards with 202 species described as of June 2015. These species come in a range of colours, and many species have the ability to change colour. The Edge Sculpture Chameleon is shown in a bright green and yellow. The sculpture is a 3D piece which means it can be viewed from any angle. It is also hollow allowing light to permeate through.

Chameleons’ eyes are independently mobile, but in aiming at a prey item, they focus forward in coordination, affording the animal stereoscopic vision. This Chameleon is shown ready to grasp a caterpillar for its lunch!

In Spring 2022, three new Chameleons were added to the range, Orange, Blue and Rainbow Blue, and in Spring 2023 The Rainbow Pink. Also new to the reptile range is the charming African Tree Frog in five bright colours. The Tree frog perches upon a branch that sits perfectly alongside any of the Chameleons as shown in the photo in the gallery. How the Chameleon Edge Sculpture is made

The original piece is moulded and given life from clay that is then expertly encapsulated in rubber to produce the parent mould.

The pieces are then cast from a durable composite granite and are vacuum sealed with a bleed to remove compromising air bubbles from the structure. The curative period is then initiated and sustained until the structure is aptly hardened.

The piece is then meticulously examined and fettled to outline the depth of detail and heighten the sculpture’s natural form. For finishing it is then passionately coloured, shaded and detailed by our expert artists; completing the creation of a masterpiece.
