The Verdi Gris Octopus Edge Sculpture is a Time Limited edition and each piece will be individually numbered and signed with a certificate of authentication.

Designed and craftsman made in England by talented Sculptor Matt Buckley, they are thoughtfully sculpted with an emphasis on aesthetic design moulded with the mind’s eye. Each piece has a unique feel that reflects the original animal with a dramatic mix of form, colour, light and texture.

The Octopus figure is a strange and fascinating creature, for starters, it has eight limbs and if that wasn’t enough to make it unique, it also has three hearts, nine brains and blue blood! Renowned for their otherworldly look and remarkable intelligence, octopuses continue to reveal astonishing qualities, abilities and behaviour.

In tests conducted by marine scientists, they’ve solved mazes and completed tricky tasks to get food rewards. They’re also excellent at getting themselves in and out of containers and have a mischievous side to their nature. At the Natural History Museum, staff were perplexed over fish going missing from a tank. It turns out that a nearby Octopus was getting out of its own tank, opening the fish tank, stealing the fish, then closing the lid behind it and then heading back to its own tank to hide the catch! In the wild they have been observed to tap a prawn on the shoulder to startle it, only to make it travel straight to the waiting other seven tentacles to be caught for dinner.

How The Octopus Figure is made

The original octopus piece is moulded and given life from clay that is then expertly encapsulated in rubber to produce the parent mould.

It is then cast from a durable composite granite and is vacuum sealed with a bleed to remove compromising air bubbles from the structure. The curative period is then initiated and sustained until the structure is aptly hardened.

The Octopus is then meticulously examined and fettled to outline the depth of detail and heighten the sculpture’s natural form. For finishing it is then passionately coloured, shaded and detailed by our expert artists; completing the creation of a masterpiece as seen in the photo and the video below.
