About this sculpture

Welcome to the world of Edge Sculpture in Miniature.

Edge Sculpture right from its beginnings is a range of contemporary statement pieces for the home and of course, with that intention, many of the pieces are purposely large in scale. This was Matt Buckley’s primary design goal when originally conceiving and sculpting the range, utilising such large proportions within his work to create pieces that have a bold and visually striking appearance. This is certainly echoed by many subjects that reside within both the past and present Edge Sculpture portfolio.

However, Matt has always enjoyed experimentation and over the past few years has been considering just how he can present his work on a smaller scale. Not to just sculpt smaller pieces but instead to explore the possibilities of turning what is a very large piece into a flawless miniaturised version of the original. The intention was to not only manufacture the miniature using the same marble-based stone casting material but also paint the piece in the same way.

Modern technological advances have most certainly aided with this new adventure but Matt has had to make many small adjustments within the pieces to make them both possible to make and yet retain a virtual identical likeness to the much larger original sculpture

All Edge Sculpture Miniatures are presented in a matt black-lidded gift box adorned with a silver foil logo.

The Miniature Collection currently includes a Giraffe Bust, Gorilla Bust, Bay Horse Bust, Lion Bust, Sea Turtle Bust, T Rex Bust, Venus Bust, Wolf Bust, Spartan Bust and a Penguin with its young at its feet.

A little about the Grey Wolf

The grey wolf (Canis lupus) is a magnificent and iconic creature, known for its intelligence, social structure, and adaptability. As apex predators, grey wolves play a crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems by controlling the populations of prey animals such as deer and elk.

Grey wolves are highly social animals that live and hunt in packs, typically consisting of an alpha pair, their offspring, and other subordinate members. Communication within the pack is complex, involving vocalizations like howls, body language, and scent marking.

Their thick fur, which can range from silvery grey to nearly pure black or white, helps them survive in diverse climates, from the snowy forests of North America to the mountainous regions of Europe and Asia. Grey wolves are also known for their incredible endurance, capable of travelling long distances in search of food and territory.

Symbolically, the grey wolf is often associated with traits like loyalty, strength, and wilderness, making it a powerful subject for artistic expression and home décor.

How this sculpture is made

The original piece is moulded and given life from clay that is then expertly encapsulated in rubber to produce the parent mould.

Each piece is sculpted in clay, which allows the creation of pieces that deliver both a dynamic and organic feel.  The team at Edge then developed both the cases and moulds which ensure the faithful reproduction of the original clay sculpture in a special blend of marble stone castings.

The finishing touch is the skilful application of hand-painting with the end result being a statement piece and talking point for anyone’s home or business!
