Highland Cow Bust – Edge Sculpture – EDB30

Description

Highland Cattle, with their long horns and red flowing coats, are one of the oldest registered breeds of cattle in the world. These cattle are a hardy breed, that was originally designed to withstand the harsh conditions in the Scottish Highlands. They are now bred in many other areas of the UK and around the world and are sometimes seen with a black coat.

The Highland cow is a symbol of Scotland and they have been captured in many forms of art from sculpture to paintings. Matt was keen to show the actual red colours and majestic power of this much-photographed creature.  They are known as gentle giants but as with all large cattle, please take care if you try and capture a photograph when out on a walk, especially if a cow has a calf as she will be protective.  Remember to respect these beautiful creatures and give them space.

If you would like a perfect representation of a Highland Cow, then why not invest in an Edge Sculpture so you have a beautiful and permanent reminder of these beautiful cows. To learn more about this piece, see the Edge Video below.

Launched in Spring 2023, there is now a Highland Cow in Black to complete the Highland collection.

How they are made

Antiques and collectables of the future are thoughtfully sculpted with an emphasis on aesthetic design moulded with the mind’s eye. The original piece is moulded and given life from clay that is then expertly encapsulated in rubber to produce the parent mould.

The pieces are then cast from a durable composite granite and vacuum sealed with a bleed to remove compromising air bubbles from the structure. The curative period is then initiated and sustained until the structure is aptly hardened.

The piece is then meticulously examined and fettled to outline the depth of detail and heighten the sculpture’s natural form. For finishing it is then passionately coloured, shaded and detailed by our expert artists; completing the creation of a masterpiece.
