About the Sea Turtle

Sea turtles have inhabited Earth’s oceans for over 100 million years, surviving alongside the dinosaurs and continuing to thrive as powerful symbols of endurance. Known for their long migrations, some species travel thousands of miles between feeding grounds and nesting beaches, often returning to the very place they hatched. They play a crucial role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems, from keeping seagrass beds in balance to supporting coral reefs. Despite their resilience, sea turtles face serious threats from pollution, plastic waste, and loss of nesting habitats, leaving many species endangered. Their story is one of both strength and vulnerability, making them a fitting subject for this striking miniature sculpture.

Welcome to the world of Edge Sculpture in Miniature.

Edge Sculpture right from its beginnings, is a range of contemporary statement pieces for the home and of course with that intention many of the pieces are purposely large in scale. This was Matt Buckley’s primary design goal when originally conceiving and sculpting the range, utilizing such large proportions within his work to create pieces that have a bold and visually striking appearance. This is certainly echoed by many subjects that reside within both the past and present Edge Sculpture portfolio.

However, Matt has always enjoyed experimentation and over the past few years has been considering just how he can present his work on a smaller scale. Not to just sculpt smaller pieces but instead to explore the possibilities of turning what is a very large piece into a flawless miniaturised version of the original. The intention was to not only manufacture the miniature using the very same marble based stone casting material but to also paint the piece in the very same way as well.

Modern technological advances have most certainly aided with this new adventure but Matt has had to make many small adjustments within the pieces to make them both possible to make and yet retain a virtual identical likeness to the much larger original sculpture

All Edge Sculpture Miniatures will be presented in a matt black lidded gift box adorned with a silver foil logo.
